About Spacesof
Interface
The Vision
Transform cutting-edge research into strategic urban solutions, promoting spaces of interface, placemaking anchors, that foster collaboration, sustainability, and thriving communities.
The Services
Diagnostic + Strategies to find the right mix of uses, proximities between actors, and rhythms of everyday life to foster thriving, sustainable and innovative urban settings.
[SpacesofInterface] is the professional project of the architect and urban planner Glòria Serra Coch, supported by a network of experts both in reasearch and practice.
What can SpacesofInterface help you tackle?
-
Difficulty translating data and insights into tangible strategies.
-
Fragmented urban areas and mono-functional zones.
-
Invisible or weak social and institutional networks limiting collaboration.
-
Temporal underuse or overuse in buildings and public spaces
-
Resistance to change and institutional silos.
-
Lack of tailored, integrated approaches that combine spatial, social, sustainable and governance perspectives.
-
Lack of people-centred placemaking and fragmented urban areas where uses and actors remain disconnected.
What can SpacesofInterface do for you?
-
Assess the suitability and strategic potential of sites.
-
Define the right mix of uses and users in a development or planned complex.
-
Implement place-based strategies that integrate spatial planning, social dynamics, and stakeholder engagement.
-
Analyse socio-spatial data.
-
Diagnose urban and network dynamics to guide planning.
-
Co-create activation and implementation plans with key stakeholders.
-
Facilitate coordination between actors and institutions.
-
Assess spatial and social impact of projects.
How we do it
Tools&Methods
[ Urban Analytics ]
Use geospatial and data-driven tools [GIS, spatial modelling, mobility data, land-use data, remote sensing, heat maps] to us understand patterns of density, accessibility, fragmentation, and proximity in context, and to visualize scenarios and trade-offs.
[ Network Science ]
Analyse professional, institutional, and social networks to identify key actors, connections, and flows that can accelerate collaboration and innovation.
[ Human Dynamics ]
Explore how people perceive, move, and interact within spaces, what drives their choices and how temporal routines shape usage in order to design strategies that align with real behaviours and community needs, increasing the odds of acceptance, adoption, and long-term vitality.
Why this matters
Cities today face a paradox: while we are more connected than ever, our urban environments often segregate people, uses, and times. Monofunctional districts, fragmented planning, and isolated projects limit opportunities for exchange and innovation.
These gaps — between residential and productive uses, between professionals and citizens, between policy and practice — reduce the city’s capacity to adapt, collaborate, and thrive in a sustainable and resilient way.
the goal: Identifying and bridging those gaps through introducing spaces of interface: places and strategies where different actors, activities and temporalities can meet, coexist, and co-create value.
Who is involved?

The heart behind SpacesofInterface
Glòria Serra Coch
I am an architect (ETSAB-UPC), urban planner (Columbia University) and doctor in Sciences of the City (EPFL). My work lies at the crossroads of research, urban design, and the social dynamics of innovation. Over the past decade, I have worked in Barcelona, New York, and Lausanne — from designing community-oriented neighborhoods and adaptive reuse projects, to researching how proximity and information networks shape the diffusion of energy innovations in Switzerland.
I have worked with leading institutions such as EPFL’s HERUS lab in Switzerland, CallisonRTKL (Arcadis) and Columbia University in New York; BTA Architecture and Architecture, Energy & Environment Research Group at Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) in Barcelona.

Network of Collaborators
Spaces of Interface functions as a flexible platform. Depending on the project’s scope, I bring together collaborators from academia and practice [urbanists, sociologists, engineers, geographers, and designers] to provide targeted advice or direct involvement, whether for technical analysis, conceptual framing, or on-site co-creation. This network allows to integrate cutting-edge research, design expertise, and local knowledge while remaining agile and context-sensitive.
